Title: Names
Description: First & Last? Or Full Name?
.anonymity. - March 25, 2008 11:44 PM (GMT)
I'm pretty neutral on this topic, but what do you prefer in an RPG? Being able to register with your character's first and last name...or do you like throwing in the middle name?
ofadmin - March 26, 2008 12:28 AM (GMT)
I like to keep it simple with just the first and last names. I think that if people want to see your middle name they can just look at your profile. :D
.not so radiant - March 26, 2008 02:00 AM (GMT)
Yeah, I definitely prefer first and last. Maybe it's just because that's what I'm used to... the first few RPG's I joined were like that, so I guess it stuck with me-- now it's hard for me to stand the whole first-middle-last name thing... it really bugs me. Straying from the topic, but I also despise when I'm forced to sign up with a lowercase name. You ask me for writing skills and then you tell me to go by a lowercase name? Ughhhhh. [/stabs lowercase names]
........
[/a lot]

Okay, that comment so wins. *high five*
Anyways, first and last. That's all. We don't need to clutter the board.

The Literacy/Skill debate aside, which i wont be commenting on. I feel that it should only have to do with keeping the board as neat and professional as possible while still being friendly. Ultimately its a matter of the personal preference of the admin. You wither adhere to it or you don't. But whatever is decided every single person should follow the model. It says consistency, professionalism and places a small reminder of the importance of rules. Now personally i don't really care, i use First and Last names on my site. But if i like a an rpg enough ill just join no matter what the registration requirements are.
RomanHk - March 26, 2008 04:39 AM (GMT)
It really doesn't bother me either way if I were joining; I just wouldn't force someone to concoct a middle name to join my own board.

I voted first and last as it's really all that's needed. I don't mind if someone wants to add a middle name as well though.

*nods* completely agree. Lowercase doesn't work for me.

First and Last names are fine with me. I rarely put in a middle name and that is almost never. I really don't care for middle names that much. I prefer keeping it simple and it's easier to remember.
tarot americaine - April 3, 2008 08:00 PM (GMT)
First and last, in my mind, just makes the most sense. I mean, you normally don't know people's middle names upon meeting them, do you?
I don't much care, though. I'm not going to not role-play somewhere because of how I have to register my character.
truthfullies - April 4, 2008 02:50 AM (GMT)
I prefer first and last names. It's easier and to the point.
Imagine if someone forgot their middle name. That would suck
Equestrian - April 5, 2008 02:52 PM (GMT)
Eh middle names are just a bit much for me, but first and last names is perfect =].
Middle names on profile haha.
xkapow - April 16, 2008 12:43 AM (GMT)
I prefer First and Last names just to sign up. Middle names can stay in profiles.
.Ra - April 16, 2008 12:48 AM (GMT)
I always do first and last names. Middle names make things longer and a little crazy. In real life my little brother’s full name is longer then the alphabet. (Yeah it’s long.)
ShadowAngel - April 16, 2008 12:54 AM (GMT)
I like having just first and last names, some names just get too long they become distracting
morosely - April 16, 2008 04:24 AM (GMT)
I like first and last name since I actually have characters who lack middle names. So I may be a bit bias, but they also just seem to take up far too much space when you throw in the middle name for some random reason.
sweet rebellion - April 20, 2008 05:04 PM (GMT)
It really doesn't bug me either way, personally. But I voted first and last name just because I'm more used to that. ^_^
Panda - April 20, 2008 05:11 PM (GMT)
I can be as lazy as I can be outspoken so I went with first and last. This is because I don't even have middle names for my characters. If I do, I think of them on the spot and will forget them two days later because it isn't something that ever comes into play. I think if you have a hyphenated name then it's a different story but really, I'd prefer first and last. However, if I can register on a game just as, 'Panda' then I'm crowing!
ihazatardis - April 20, 2008 07:51 PM (GMT)
I like first and last. Through the middle in there, and it seems a bit too long, and I'd never remember it. x.x
Sicaluff - April 28, 2008 07:25 PM (GMT)
I prefer first and last, and with the first letters capitialized. All lowercase makes me cringe. We all learned about capitization in grammar school.
China Doll - April 28, 2008 08:01 PM (GMT)
First & Last Name here, I don't see the point in adding a middle name to end up making the character's name long and crazy. However I don't mind it if they put it in their app, but for their username its strictly first and last. XD
.anonymity. - May 7, 2008 03:17 AM (GMT)
Thanks for your input, guys. I'll be sure to keep that in mind the next time I am debating between the requirement of first and last names or full names.
Nirinia - May 8, 2008 08:44 AM (GMT)
Why on earth do you all make such a fuss of demanding how the members register their character's names? Really, beyond demanding that it be a name, and that it is spelled well, I do not see the problem. Not all people have middle names. Goodness, up here there are very few people with middle names.
Yes, I understand that certain names might be incredibly long if middle names are included, but don't you think members will see that, too?
Catastrophe86 - July 21, 2008 07:18 AM (GMT)
I prefer first and last name only. No one ever uses my characters' middle names, though all of them have one.
Plus, a lot of my characters would have crazy long usernames if I were to include the middle name.

I have the exact same problem when it comes to roleplaying. I mean, a lot of people don't have middle names in real life. So why should it be mandatory for roleplays? I have no clue.
