Title: "You're Next" Sig Tutorial.
Description: by la-harlequin

Well I got quite a bit of positive feedback on this sig I made a while ago so I decided to make a tutorial for that effect :) I couldn't find the psd file I had saved for that signature, so I made another signature using the same effect for this tutorial.

I used three images in this tutorial [1, 2, 3] and they came from foto decadent. This tutorial is pretty simple and can be followed with basically any program (except paint, of course). Okay, on with the tutorial!

Today we're going to create this signature: user posted image

1. Select your two main images, and blend them in a way so that you have a fairly large space on your signature that can be covered up later without any problems. It can be anywhere: left, right, centre, top, bottom, whatever, as long as it’s there. Now that you have your blended images, flatten them together and desaturate the layer and sharpen it once. Your image should now look something like this. Notice my blank space is on the right.

2. Duplicate the layer and set it to soft light. The opacity is up to you, because it depends how heavily contrasted your images were to start with. I set mine to Opacity 70%. Flatten the layer.
3. Now you need to select the image you’re going to use for the small boxes. Once you have your image, desaturate it and sharpen it. Scale/Crop it down till it’s approximately 118 x 98 pixels (that’s only an approximation!). Add a nifty border brush to it and then flatten the picture and border brush to it and group it (not flatten, group) the picture and border brush together. Duplicate the layer once or twice and scale the one or two new layers to whatever size (smaller than the original) works best. All two/three images should be a different size. Arrange them over your signature in the blank space you left in step one. Your sig should now look something like this.
4. Flatten all of the layers together. The base of your signature is now complete, and now it’s time for the colouring effects.
5. Create a new layer and fill it with the colour #913100. Set this layer to soft light, 80%.
6. Create another layer and fill this one with the colour #000033. Set this layer to exclusion, 100%. Your signature should look something like this.
7. Now your signature is almost complete! Go ahead and decorate your sig with a border/text/whatever, just don’t overdo it.
8. And you’re done! Sit back and admire your pretty new signature.

I hope you enjoyed my tutorial, and that it worked out for you :) I'd love to see what you got with it :)

Hmm, now I'm curious Indygirl, could you maybe post it here so we can see hwo it turned out for you? Maybe more people would like to make this tut, and show it off here as well ^_^.

just noticed this board, really, and wanted to say to la-harlequin, that I LOVE your tuts.

I found them at Pandora's Closet and have actually used this tut for one of my other sigs...mostly the colour layers and such. LOVE IT!

Keep up the awesome work!

I made one using GIMPshop and skipped alot of the steps, mainly because I didn't need or want them. Here's what I got. Except...I didn't make it with those pics....Ehm....anyways...

Really awesome tutorial. I think I'll try it out if I get some freetime.

I'll probably use different pictures though. I'll post it if I ever get it made.

Again, great tut!

Hey ajdav, that turned out nicely. Have a suggestion for you though, next time save it as a png file. Do you see those weird 'stray' pixels all around edges of the head, shirt etc? Well that is what happens when you save an image in a jpeg format (jpeg compresses a file, thus compressing pixels too). PNG doesn't do this and makes a much smoother safe, thus graphic.

Just thought I'd give that suggestion ;). I really helps with the quality of a graphic.

oh thanks
I never really understood the difference between all the formats.
