Okay, so a friend and I are discussing the pros and cons of a list of characters for an original RP. Once, I had a small list of basic characters needed for a Mafia/Las Vegas RP and it seemed to work okayish, but people prefered the option of making their own characters....but as the writer of the plot and a dedicated RPer, I don't want to see all my hard work ruined...so what's the common consensus? A set character list, or a total freedom to create your own characters?
Personally, I would go for a mixture of both if you feel that certain set canon characters are needed. Granted, you may have to drop all the hard work you put into making the canons and save it for something else. Sure its not a pleasant thing to do but yeah. You can have the canon's available still while also allowing members to create their own. I myself don't care much for things being completely run by canon characters but it depends, I suppose, on the forum.
Having a set list of characters needed to play with no option at all of creating your own character seems outrageous to me if that's what you were implying, I think some members might like to be able to choose between one or the other. You don't have to get rid of your canon characters and they won't be ruined because it can't honestly be ruined if you feel proud of it.
Maybe you could make the plot less dependant on the canons and create a list of 'positions' that members can apply their characters for through the character creation process? And create a character adoption place for put your canon's should you have a member that would be interested in them.
:pink:
Yeah, character adoption forums are always good. Do that. But DONT force ANYONE to make a Canon. Cardinal Rule right there.
No, no, I wasn't implying that we'd JUST have"canon" characters; I was thinking of giving the RPers the option of creating original characters if they liked. But I like the idea of making it a character adoption forum instead of a canon list. Thanks, guys!
