Title: Question About Double Posting

RotFMods - March 17, 2008 03:10 PM (GMT)
What are we supposed to do if we make a post in, say, the employment section, no one else replies, but you need to bump it in order to see if anyone is interested, but it would mean double posting?

I have a thread in the employment section that's getting closer to being on the second page, and it's a spot that I'd rather have filled sooner than later, but if I can't double post then it'll end up just falling onto the second page. :| That's the only reason I'm really asking, is because I'm trying to get the spot filled.

If your topic falls off the first page, you are free to make a new topic. I'd rather have people making a new topic then to keep bumping their old topic.

Perhaps we ought to add that into the rules? Just a little note in brackets that if you want to get your topic back on the first page make a new one instead of bumping. That might clear some things up.

You probably should. I personally have always been confused about that.

I already added it ^^.

Either that, or maybe allow people to double post only in that section/the sections where you're looking for someone to fill a spot, like for a character or a position for employment that needs to be filled. It's up to you either way, but for now I'm just going to go ahead and make a new thread (since the post ended up on page two).

Edit: ack, that's what I get for taking so long to reply.

Ignore this. >.>

Edit 2: can the post that we make after an employment post ends up on the second page be a post saying "hey, this is a reminder that I'm in need of such-and-such position filled. Anyone interested can..." or should it just be the same post we've already posted once?

The reason we don't like people to double post is that ShinLi sees it as messy. THis is her board so it's totally her perogative, wouldn't you agree? Doesn't really matter either way - but we go for no double posting. It makes it easier for us staff to archive things too.

For your new topic definitely use the form but I wouldn't worry about making it different to the old one. No one's going to notice, I'm sure. We certainly are not going to come down on you for lack of creativity if you copy and paste XD

In my opinion, allowing bumping after x amount of time would be less cluttered than having multiple topics about the exact same thing. Instead have it be you can bump like 2 or three weeks after the last post date seems more logical to me.

But, it is just my opinion :)

If you either make a new topic or bump the old one, it is exactly the same thing, both times the topic will be at the top again. Double posting in my eyes makes things messy, and it also makes you look less professional. I think people will be less likely post if you bumped your topic three times already.

We can discuss about this on and on and on. But the simple thing is, in the rules, which have been quite the same since RPG-D started, it says you cannot double post.

Hey, that's fine, I wasn't trying to push or anything. It was just a suggestion. I'll go ahead and make a new post.
