I know your problem is solved, but here's an alternative....

Sometimes the issue is just that the banner isn't long enough. I prefer it when the banner fills in the skin--if that makes sense--instead of floating in the middle. So I just make sure the banner's large enough (in the case of my board, 900 px) and it works well.
