So yesterday, I visited the campus for UT Dallas... I was worried about it, because if I didn't like the campus, I would've wanted to apply to U North Texas, which would've meant more stress etc. etc. BUT, I really liked it! It's not pretty, but it's not ugly. It's just... It's very new. Only about 30 years old or so, and the buildings are... buildings. They're not old, ivy-covered stone buildings made 100 years ago, no cathedrals or huge towers; in fact, there's not even a lot of trees. Well, there are quite a few trees, but not nearly as much as there are in UNT. BUT, the campus is very clean, and it is nice -- it's just more modern, and not what one thinks of when they picture a college campus.
What really got me is the fact that UTD has apartments instead of dorms... We visited one, and they were so nice and spacious. Of course, it was clean and cute because it was a sample room and the furniture all matched and the bedrooms were done all cute, but still, lol. Freshmen have to have 3 roommates if they're living on campus, but you each get your own room, but you share 2 bathrooms, a living area, a kitchenette, and a laundry room! So yeah, I have my own room! YAY. It's like only 1/4 the size of my room at home, but still -- my own room! lol. :] The weird thing is, they don't come with ANY furniture (not even beds!) or appliances, except the fridge, microwave, and washer and dryer. So I have to buy my own bed and lug it from Houston to Dallas... Durgg. Don't know how that'll work. XD
But still! I am so excited! It feels so good to have seen it and decided I could definitely see myself being happy there. <333
Umm, any feel-good college stories? XD
Considering I am far from college I would have to say -- no stories. :) But I'm happy for you! Maybe buy a couch bed? You know, a fold up bed? That would be cool. Anyway... congrats I guess.
I also chose a more modern, not-really-how-I-imagined-college school over the Big Ten buillt-100-years-ago school I thought I preferred. It was between Grand Valley State and Indiana U for me, and I ended up going with Grand Valley, which was definitely the right choice because then they gave me a scholarship that covers my entire tuition. Indiana's this huge really prestigious school and Grand Valley's smaller and modern and I didn't initially think it was what I wanted, basically for the same reasons as you Sunday- Indiana's campus is gorgeous, I was convinced that that was where I wanted to spend the next 4 years.
The housing's better at the school I'm going to as well. At Indiana, they have the traditional two-people-to-a-room dorms without air conditioning and with a communal bathroom in the hall. At Grand Valley, I get to share a room, mini kitchen, and bathroom with one person and they ask you questions to match you up too, which is awesome. I won't be rooming with a morning person or a neat freak- I'm pleased ^_^
Mmmmm... Uni... it's fun.
I moved two hours downstate for uni, to a relatively new university (well, it's been around for a while... it started off as a group of smaller Tech schools, eventually building itself into the VUT, now just VU... since 96, I think) which was soooooooo far from the ancient Monash University I wanted to go to waaaaay across the city...
(Mousie wasn't good enough for Monash. *weeps*)
But even though I'm out here in Boganville, I love it. We do the craziest stuff, and while my Monash friends are out having 'Coffee and Cake in the Common Room'... we're out throwing flour and water at each other and racing home-made billy carts.
The residences are also very different to what I expected, but I love it all the same. It's one bathroom between three here -- and no wandering down the hall half-nekkie! We get a unit-y thing, with bedrooms... communal kitchens and common rooms.. it's sweet.
So I guess the bottom line is, appearances and age aren't everything!
