Title: My Cruel & Unusual Weapon Of Choice
Description: Some fun.

Mousie - March 2, 2008 12:09 PM (GMT)
Sometimes there are things in our lives that would just make great weapons - if one were cruel enough to use them. So here's an ode to all the cruel and unusual possible weapons.

Today's induction, the Durian Fruit.

These things are about the size of a smallish watermelon, and they're nasty! I've got cuts on my hands from handling them through bags - and in my quieter, angrier moments, I wonder how much damage it would do if you seriously swung it at someone..

So watch out -- or I'll go totally fruit and veg on ya!

ShinLi - March 2, 2008 12:56 PM (GMT)
Hah, that would make a perfect weapon, throw it at someone's face and they won't be happy lol. You almost have to wear gloves to just pick it up it seems. I've never seen that fruit here though.

Insomnium - March 2, 2008 02:37 PM (GMT)
Oh my goodness, that looks evil! Haha, I've never seen anything quite like it in person, except maybe a pineapple. I hope I never have to handle one. It looks kind of like a spikey coconut. o.O

littleALICE - March 2, 2008 02:42 PM (GMT)
*blinks* What someone actually go out and get one of those things, then use it as a weapon. It's edible too!

I kind of want to try to throw it at someone, if you got cut just from handling them, even with bags, it would be terrible to find out what would happen with a bit of force behind it when someone touched it.

I think I saw some when I went to visit my gramma, but they were probably something else. Anyway, don't introduce that to the boys in my grade or they will all be dead in a matter of minutes.

Gowd - March 2, 2008 04:37 PM (GMT)
Durian Fruit - throw it at some body's face, and have a healthy snack afterwards!

This must be the most lethal edible substance ive seen, but I've never achually seen one before, this is my first time lol :p

.Ra - March 2, 2008 04:49 PM (GMT)
Haha… death by large pointy fruit.

Emma - March 3, 2008 05:43 AM (GMT)
Yay for durian fruit! Is that the one that smells bad too?

I think putting Rafflesias in a catapult and bombarding people like that would be very mean. You'd win easily because everyone would be retching if they hadn't been knocked out by it (they grow up to a metre across and smell like rotting flesh).

Mousie - March 3, 2008 07:39 AM (GMT)
Yeah, they smell bad - and apparently they make me itch! Seriously, wandered past the durian stand at work today, and started itching...

They're Malaysian, from what I can tell. One of my customers said that in Malaysia they take them on public transport so other people will leave them alone. Not just cause of the potential for being a highly dangerous possibly-lethal too, but more cause of the smell.

Awesome, I say. The Rafflesias look like a good choice too...

RomanHk - March 4, 2008 01:33 AM (GMT)
Haha. Hitchcock redux! My parents say those things taste great; couldn't get past the smell though so I dunno. I picked one up and that was the first thing I noticed; the prickly things really aren't that bad (unless you heave it or something).

Mousie - March 4, 2008 03:04 AM (GMT)
They are indeed so bad!

We've got the frozen ones instore, so I don't know if it makes them more lethal or not, but I can't pick it up just as it is - I need that net bag or my hand gets torn to shreds. They're evil! Evil I tell you!

RomanHk - March 4, 2008 03:42 AM (GMT)
Really? I've never had trouble picking one up. I used my fingertips rather than palming the thing though. When I did brush up against those prickly things, it itched more than hurt. Maybe you just have softer hands? :p

Katgirlxx - March 4, 2008 10:36 PM (GMT)
Ahhhhh, Durian fruit!

One of my friends got a whole BAG of Durian fruit candy from her cousins in China, and has spent time going around the hallways in the morning and videotaping people's reactions to the taste -- they've become quite infamous already.

I can never get past the smell, so I haven't bothered trying one. I didn't know they were so pointy and dangerous looking! Stick a handle in it, and you've got a pretty handy mace...

JohnSpartan117 - March 5, 2008 12:07 AM (GMT)
Whoa...I thought I was the only one who thought of that ingenious idea for a makeshift weapon.

t i l t - March 5, 2008 12:11 AM (GMT)
I saw those on the Food channel. . . the host got physically sick from the smell, and then couldn't eat it. What do they smell like? I've never seen one in real life o-o;

RomanHk - March 5, 2008 01:03 PM (GMT)
They reek, more like a cross between rotting meat and garbage than rotten eggs though. x.x

Rhi-Rhi - March 5, 2008 07:09 PM (GMT)
Apparently durian kills a lot of people, actually...because it falls from trees onto people's heads and, BAM. Dead. >_> So they already are a lethal weapon as it is. Scary, scary fruit. And the things are HUGE.

I hate durian. xD My best friend and her boyfriend looove it. Buys a bunch of the fruit whole and spikey and eats it in like two days. Ick. Ick ick ick. It smells rancid and kinda peppery to me, very strong, and has the consistency of custard. Fruit should not be custardy. D8 Plus it tastes nasty...and reminds me of insect larva since once you break it open, it's in neat little sections that, well, looks like insect larva! xD Man that fruit freaks me out on so many levels.

>_> Also, my friends like to chase me around with chunks of durian in their hands, threatening to force feed me it. That stuff has scarred me for life. xDD My friends think it's the most wonderful stuff ever.

Emma - March 6, 2008 08:04 AM (GMT)
Bwa ha ha! What about custard apples? Or sommat like that =/ They are custardy!

I really want to try a durian.

Eh heh my friend wont walk under pine trees because she saw something about someone being killed by a pinecone. It's totally ridiculous because this is NZ - there are pine trees everywhere.

xRagdoll - August 9, 2008 05:55 PM (GMT)
Lmao.. I could just imagine someone getting hit in the face with it, and the spikes made the fruit stick to the side of thier head

OUCH.. and idk if they are custard apples, but we used to throw these little spikey brown things at people.. it was rock hard, and when u broke it open there was this brown goo in there... lol

RomanHk - August 9, 2008 07:10 PM (GMT)
I actually screwed up picking one up the other day. Basically, I misplaced a finger and pulled back on reflex... right into the pile of them with the back of my hand. Hurt like hell.

AshBeanNun - August 12, 2008 12:37 AM (GMT)
:o! Why have I not heard of this fruit before! It's pointy, ugly, smells bad, and kills people...it's like the pirate of fruits! *is in awe*

*runs off to research*
