Title: Are You Celebrating Valentine's Day?

Toniee-Maii - February 14, 2008 11:26 AM (GMT)
Well are you celebrating Valentine's Day? Or are you doing something alternative? Do you not celebrate it?

    Please tell!

Mousie - February 14, 2008 11:49 AM (GMT)
Celebrating is a strong word, but I had a few drinks in the weeee hours of the morning (last night was pub night), before spending the morning staring into the toilet and sleeping on my bathroom floor.. and then waking up to work.

Celebrating? No.. but certainly appreciating the well-put-together men that came through during the day. Particularly the ones at my beck and call at work... indeed. XD

Sounds like your day was fun, well apart from the fact your awoke on the bathroom floor to work; I do hate that feeling! lol.

Well as for me I wasn't going to celebrate it but my boyfriend decided that he was going to cook for me! though the fates have conspired against me and broken my brace so I will be late for the meal as I need to go and get it fixed... bleh, lmao.!

Originally people didn't even celebreate Valentines Day in Denmark where I'm from/live... it's during the last about 5-10 years they've begun to do it, which is also the case with Halloween. And a lot of Danish people are very much against these socalled "commercial American holidays", which I don't really get. I mean, you don't have to spend all your money on flowers and gifts. You can open a bottle of red wine that you had already, and have a cosy time. And I think both things are fun... and to have a WHOLE day to celebreate love! What concept is better than that, honestly?

I've celebreated it before with my boyfriend, but we're not doing it this year since I'm going to see Sweeney Todd with a new friend (girl) and we planned it before I realized the date... so I'm spending my Valentines Night with Johnny Depp, which isn't that bad either (blush)

and the boyfriend and I decided that we're just going to be romantic some other night anyhow... maybe during the weekend? Besides, my birthday is coming soon, so I hope for a couple of red roses there anyhow :D

My nephew, whose nine, got dumped by his little girlfriend last week. Worse part is, she dumped him for a kid who made fun of him for liking the girl in the first place. He told my nephew she picked her nose all the time and was gross. haha.

Anyway, he was pretty shook up about it, so yesterday I took him out to celebrate ANTI-Valentine's Day. I gave him $20 bucks to be selfish with. And I told him I'd be selfish as well. Then we drank soda, which he doesn't get to do much. We walked around the mall and I let him swear if he wanted to. We made fun of all the valentine stuff in the shops. It was all rather fun.

No I'm not, aside from not having any reason to celebrate it this year, for me is and have always been pretty pointless as you don't have to wait for a specific day to tell someone you love him/her, spent time together, buy a gift or doing something special for this person.

Now, I would be celebrating if I owned a gift shop because of the boost on sales, or if I was one of those persons that found in the holiday excuse to overcome the shyness and start a relationship, I would have reasons to celebrate too.

I wouldn’t say that I am ‘celebrating’ it. Things around here will be a pretty normal day. But my husband did give me a Wii today, which I think is the best V-day present ever. (happy)

AMEN ROSWENTH!

Love,
Lillie. Who spent half an hour vomiting her guts up after reading through the love notices in today's Herald Sun...

RyanA, that sounds like fun. It's nice of you to spend some time with your nephew. I'm not too sure about the way you spent it, but whatever. (tongue) It's nice to give him someone to whom he can look up.

As for me, I'm not doing anything at all. Why? Because Valentine's Day is overrated--it's a religious celebration turned commercialized. Now, I have nothing against a "lovey" day; of course not--it's a great idea both for lovers and for commercial companies. However, I do have a problem with the fact that I'd like to celebrate the day for what it's made:

St Valentine! Don't forget him. :)

PS,
Roswenth, I love the cartoon. So true.

Shadow of the Rain - February 14, 2008 05:44 PM (GMT)
Lol, that's awesome, Ros. You made me giggle.

RyanA, I couldn't help but go, "awwww!" at the story of your nephew's relationship problems. I feel badly for him, but I couldn't help it. Little kid stuff like that is cute. Yay for you being the cool uncle! Kids always need a cool relative like that to let them cut lose every once in awhile...even if it's not exactly something the parents would like.

I'll be celebrating Singles Awareness Day today, not that I'm bitter about it or anything. I love holidays, so of course I'm having fun telling everyone Happy Valentine's Day and giving out little chocolates to all my friends. The floor reps had some pink lunch bags in the hall for people to decorate and hang on their doors for others to put valentines in. I've gotten Airheads and chocolate hearts and a panda tattoo so far. It's like elementary school all over again! It's awesome. Oh yeah! And my daddy sent me a box of chocolates. He gives me candy every year cuz I'm his only daughter and it's one of the few ways he can try to spoil me now that his "little girl" is getting older.

I'm not big into the whole romantic side of the holiday, but I really like Valentine's Day anyway cuz it's another excuse to give, get, and eat chocolate.

Currently celebrating "Middle Name Day". My mom's maiden name's Valentine. So, we don't particularly do anything special. (I'm quite single and quite happy about it.) But I got free chocolates from my mom and we're making sugar cookies.

Cookies & Chocolate? If that's celebrating, I'm all for it. Lovey-dovey crud? Not interested.

*hands saltine crackers to Mousie* You've been doing a lot of puking today, hun. Might want to avoid the pub for V-day next time if you have to work the next day...lol

*shakes fist*

I frickin' hate Valentine's Day. If you're single and you criticise it, you look like a bitter, lonely wench who can't get a boyfriend to spend it with. If you're taken and you criticise it, it's assumed that your significant other forgot/gave you a godawful present/generally made it an unpleasant experience. And unlike basically everyone else here, I can't be in on it solely for the chocolate what with being vegan. ;-; I'ma ignore the fact that people over here are increasingly keen on it and dismiss it as a commercialised Yankee holiday. *does so oh-so-smugly*

On a less ranting note, with regards how I actually spent it, earlier today, me and a couple of friends went to the park with water-guns and sprayed any couples who were getting too cosy in the picknicking area. We even managed to put out a few cigarettes. Fun times.

Omg-- I freaking hate Valentines and I hate dumb little girls. I just got a call at work. I am getting ready to head out for the day and my sister called cause my nephew is in tears at his after-school program. The staff called her. I guess the little girl that dumped him walked around with her new boyfriend and they bought each other flowers. He is totally crushed. He's liked this girl since the first day of school. My nephew was the only boy she invited to her birthday party (and she told him she wanted him to buy her earrings and he did!)

My sister can't get off work for another hour and half. So I am off to get him. I have to tell him how jerky girls can be...(no offense to all the girls out there who will take offense)

elphie49 - February 14, 2008 11:19 PM (GMT)
I hate Valentines Day; it's just another pointless holiday. Unfortunately, on any holiday, my family goes kind of crazy...so I'm semi-celebrating it. We spent all morning making candy to give to people and then later we'll give each other presents and all that silliness.

Yeah, well... it happens. Hard to avoid the pub when work is over the road... *grin*. But ah well, you live, you learn... you stare at the toilet for a bit.

It's all good. I managed to get 20 drunken Valentines though, so I think I did alright!

We went to Java and snuggled! That was about it. I wanted to give him his shirt but it hadn't arrived yet. I don't go in for Valentine's in a big way, but it's romantic and I'd never miss doing something with Dan.
