Title: Disabling Images In Advertisements

Roswenth - February 12, 2008 03:12 AM (GMT)
Isn't disabling images in an advertisement forum a little obnoxious on sites who are going around and posting tons of images in their ads on everyone else's?

It makes me want to start removing images from sites who disable images on theirs....

That's an understatement.

There was a time, long ago, when I actually used an image as an advertisement. Needless to say, I found this insanely agitating back then. These days its more of a mild annoyance, but still.

People who do this should be shot.

Well, I think it's okay, as long as they don't use images in their adverts.

If they do, then... well, much shame and perhaps some foot shooting.

Well, the example I saw actually used their LOGO in their ad, stretching out the skin of the site I was looking at (not mine). Now, I have a pretty high tolerance for stretching, but I have a large screen and when it stretches past mine, then it's bad. Then they had icons at the bottom of their ad. I posted my ad at their site which has a pretty small image, and it came up (posted image).

So you can see why I was a little irate...

I don't care if people remove the pictures as long as they post it in their advertising rules that they're going to do so. But if they remove them and then post their own pic in their ad on other boards, that's what we call hypocrisy, my friends. Death to hypocrites.

I’ll toast to that. Though I have found that most people that disable the images in the guest section are hypocrites, and I hate them.

Treat others as you want to be treated, that should go for advertising.

Death to all hypocrites would mean that no one is left alive.

Shhh! Don't tell them that.

Tis definitely pretty stupid, and annoying. I have a personal hate for boards where the skin forces the text small. As in - not just the default, but everything. My ad looks rather pathetic when it's all the same size.

*sigh*

One day, people will learn not to be stupid, and Mousie will die of shock.

You will be dead of natural causes long before then.

If someone blocks my images on their site, and have images in their ads, then they are not welcome to post their ad on my site unless they edit their code. It's that simple.

Basic respect, you know?

Darth Makar - February 14, 2008 04:30 PM (GMT)
Okay, stupid question time:

Why do people block images in ads? I can understand if it stretches the page, but most of the time they don't. And I know that it doesn't have to do with the internet speed because they allow sigs and avatars and stuff. And people with slow internet connections know that there could be pictures inside advertisements and stuff.

*confused*

If they use images in their own ads? I have no clue. Cuz they like to annoy people, maybe?

If they don't use them? Maybe they're worried about people posting inappropriate images. Maybe it's like Darth said and they don't want the board to stretch. I think that's silly though, cuz it's just the one page and the advertiser is the silly looking one posting an image that looks so ridiculously huge compared to the page.

*shrugs* I think it's a pretty silly practice.

Agreed. Hypocrisy serves its purpose. To annoy. Or...something like that. x-x
