Title: Should I Cut My Hair?
Description: Help me decide...
Roswenth - February 11, 2008 11:46 PM (GMT)
I can't decide if I should cut all my hair off. I think it's giving me headaches, and it's so fine that it's always flying around and getting staticy, even with lots of product in it. Right now it's layered to my collarbone and I have bangs.
Here's some pics, all of me with hair at different stages. In the short one, my hair was bleached.

Ultra-short! It looks really good in that picture!
Also, after I get married I'm going ultra-short for the first time. I'm really excited to do it, but nervous at the same time (which is why I'm waiting until after my wedding...so that if it looks terrible at least I won't have 8412349 pictures to remind me of it, lol). My hair grows very fast, and I'm kind of worried about the upkeep for short hair. Will I have to get a lot of haircuts to keep it looking good? Usually, I just let my hair grow out until I get tired of it and the cut it off above the shoulders and donate it to Locks of Love. But I've decided that I'm ultra-tired of long hair and actually want to keep it short this time, so I'm going to try ultra-short for a change.
And if you have enough hair (you only need ten inches!) you should totally donate it to Locks of Love. A lot of salons will give you a discount/cut your hair for free if you donate.

You do have to get more haircuts, but it takes almost no time in the morning to get ready, which I miss. In that first pic, I actually cut my own hair though. I used a razor comb, and it didn't take much time at all. You can sorta see in the short and the chin pics, but I also have a wave to my hair, so it doesn't always want to straighten out like the long pic.
What does your fiance think? My guy friends freak out if I tell them I'm cutting my hair, and I really don't get what the deal is with guys and hair. My dad actually prefers short hair on women, and he always says I should cut it short again, but I think he's the only male I've ever known to be like that.

I would cut it super short so it won't get in the way for a couple of months!
Little Mouse - February 12, 2008 09:21 AM (GMT)
Oh, my fiancé prefers it short. I was totally surprised when I discovered this. My dad almost cried when I cut my hair of when I was ten years old. It was down past my mid-back and I got it cut to just below my chin. He loves long hair. But my fiancé prefers my hair short. According to him it "gets in the way" when it's long. When my hair is long he tends to get smacked with it, sit on it, get it stuck in his stubble, gets in our mouths when we kiss, and generally just gets all over him. So I understand his sentiment. At first I thought it was just an annoyance thing, but we were looking through old pictures and he was like "ooo, cute short hair!" so he actually thinks it looks better short, too.
I'm really excited about having super-short hair, because I've never done it before. I'm definitely excited about taking quicker showers. Most of my shower time is spent washing my enormous amounts of hair, lol.
My massive amounts of hair (this was about three weeks ago):

http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/5840/facebookshortgi3.jpgI know I like my hair short. I've just never gone close-to-the-head, above-the-ears, boy-cut short before. Yours totally looks good like that, though! So I hope to have similarly good results....in five months. ;)

Oh yeah, short hair looks way better on you. The long hair hides your face too much.
The problem with chin length for me is that it doesn't lie flat like yours does without a bunch of flat ironing. I've got tons of hair. And then it still goes all frizzy in any bit of humidity, and I live in terrible humidity.
I actually have one female friend who has really long hair who thinks that any girl who says short hair is better on other girls is actually lying. No one can convince her differently, and she'll outright attack any girl for saying some other girl's short hair is cute. I really like short hair on a lot of girls, but I can't convince her of it. Some girls look great with long hair. Heck, I've even seen girls with shaved heads or mohawks and thought "Most women couldn't pull that off, but she does..."
Little Mouse - February 13, 2008 12:26 AM (GMT)
Lol, the long hair isn't usually in front like that- that was just for illustrative purposes. ;)
http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/4350/hairgl7.jpgI've still always like the way my hair looks short. It's just that it grows so fast and I'm lazy...You said you used a razor comb to cut your own hair. Was it hard? Because it seems to me that being able to upkeep short hair on my own would be a great thing.
My hair isn't frizzy, but it has toooooooooons of volume, so when it's chin length it poofs in humidity...or whenever it feels like it. When I have longer hair it weighs itself down and keeps it from being as huge, haha. I think really short hair would probably kill the poof effect, as there would be less hair in general.
And I agree that some girls look totally great with short hair, even shaved heads and mohawks. There was a girl I rode the bus with back in junior high who had a shaved head (but not bald) and she was totally beautiful. Way prettier than most girls her age.

Well, I went to get my hair cut today, and my inspiration was a pic in a magazine that was
pretty close to this pic so it would still have a little length, but if I pushed it behind my ears it would look short.
It looks exactly like picture 3 of my pics above. I kept trying to tell her she could take more off, but she kept talking about not being able to curl it under that way. I finally gave up and decided that I can get it cut shorter next time. I guess she figured that if she cut it too short that I'd get mad or something.
I didn't think cutting it with a razor comb was hard at all. I did the front piece by piece, and the back just by combing it. I definitely don't have any hairstyling experience or anything like that, and it never took all that long.
Little Mouse - February 13, 2008 02:39 AM (GMT)
Awww, sorry your hairstylist was too chicken. :( The first time I cut off all my hair I practically had to beg the girl to do it. She was like "you're going to hate me when it's gone! I can't do it!" and I was ten years old and I was like "seriously lady, I want it gone. I'm not going to cry....so you shouldn't either."
I really like the hairstyle you picked, but I think when I (finally) cut mine I want it really simple. In case you haven't noticed, I don't really like taking extra time with my hair. ;) So I think I want to go for something like
http://heroeswiki.com/Image:Eden.jpg Basically shorter in general, less layering...anything to cut back on my get ready time while still looking good would be great. ;)
Roswenth - February 13, 2008 02:45 AM (GMT)
I like that one a lot.
I thought I'd go longer for now since I have to put extensions in my hair for Dragon*Con this year to pull off a costume. And my student teaching in the fall already has a pic of me, so I decided it might be good not to change it quite so dramatically until afterward.
So I will probably cut it that short in December.
Little Mouse - February 13, 2008 05:40 PM (GMT)
I'M GOING TO COMIC CON FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS YEAR! For my honeymoon, bwahahahaha.
I'm so excited. I've only been to one convention before, and it was small (but still fun) so I'm totally pumped about geekiness on a larger scale. ;)
Can I ask what your costume is?
Roswenth - February 19, 2008 12:13 AM (GMT)
A dervish from Guild Wars. They're supposed to wear hoods, but I like the hairstyles better. All sorts of beading and stuff.
I will also likely do the goth thing again, but last year I wore fake dreads. However, wool hair in Georgia in August is not a good idea. I ended up taking them off in like an hour.
I'd also like to do Molly Weasley. I love Molly.
Little Mouse - February 19, 2008 05:00 AM (GMT)
Way cool!
And Molly Weasley is so totally cute. Forever.
I was thinking about bringing my Jedi robes to Comic-Con....but it's in the middle of July and that just spells death to me. I was Destruction, from the Sandman comics, at my first convention.

Despite the fact that I am not a man. ;) But the parts from that costume have mysteriously dissipated. :(
http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/838/n22...54254728lf8.jpgYou can barely tell that I'm dressed as anything because of that table...but Neil Gaiman is definitely more important that my cute patched pants and satchel thing. ;)
After the wedding when I've got more time and money I'm going to build my own Imperial Stormtropper costume so I can join the 501st Legion. Because I am geeky enough that I actually aspire to be a Stormtrooper... :D

I like the middle picture. Your hair looks great there. :)

Hey, it's your choice. You can cut your long hair if you want to. That should make your hair look just like the other boys, now would it?

If anyone thinks a girl is a guy just because she has short hair, then they must not be very bright.
This is an unofficial warning. Be polite or keep your thoughts to yourself.

Well I'm not sure if you're still needing this but I say ultra-short! Your hair looked very cute in the short pic, I thought. But then I am an advocate for short hair on girls and long hair on guys. I have short hair myself and my boyfriend has long.
I think your face suits short hair too. It doesn't make you look boyish or anything. You'd probably still get boy comments from jerks though - although, considering you're older and not in school you might not.
As I said, I like short hair. My hair is short, but longer at the moment because I haven't had a haircut since December. I want to shave my head and get my boyfriend to henna it when I've left home. I'll post pictures when I have XD

That would be awesome! I shaved my head once, but I forgot to put sunscreen on it and burned it real badly. So don't forget sunscreen! lol
I think long hair looks good on some guys and not on others. Same with facial hair (although facial hair usually looks better on guys with a contrast of hair to skin).
littleALICE - February 23, 2008 09:32 PM (GMT)
I'd choose ultra-short. But you're at that age where you just have to do something with your hair. Get it like a pixy cut, but a bit edgier, ya know?
You have the facial structure for short hair. It opens up your jaw-line and makes sure that everyone can see your eyes—which are very pretty I might add.
That, or get your hair a bit longer than a pixie-cut in the back then let it lengthen as you get to your jawline and chin. You could do that as an asymmetrical bob, which would look really nice, with bangs that hit the top of your cheekbone and sweep to one-side a bit before lengthening back out to the hair on the other side, or just have it all lining your jaw or cheek. Be sure to brush it forwards though, so that it actually sweeps with the line of your neck.
Short hair is much more fun compared to long hair. It's easier to brush through, you don't have to do something with it every day to make sure it looks nice, and it will always have more volume then just flat long hair.
Well, there, I put my . . . more then two cents in. ^^ <3
