Title: Evil Computers

Shadow of the Rain - February 1, 2008 04:51 AM (GMT)
GAAAAAAH!!!!

IT'S NOT FAIR!!!

*weeps*

I spent an hour working on that banner! An hour! And just when I've finally figured out how to get the effects I want, and just when I'm thinking, "Hmm, I should probably save this thing," my laptop hiccups and decides that PE will stop working and all my hard work is lost! Not to mention the other hour I spend searching for pictures of people. UUUUUUGGGGGHHHHH.....

All that time, wasted.

*bangs head on desk*

And what was with the error message? Visual C++ was having problems? WTF?! That program wasn't even open! It hasn't even been opened since Monday! AND HOW IS IT RELATED TO PHOTOSHOP!!!!

Computers are evil, evil things.

Awww! -hugs- I feel for you so much. That is so sucky! I'm sorry!

RomanHk - February 1, 2008 08:51 AM (GMT)
Ouch. That has got to suck. *pats* I'm sure your next attempt will be even better now that you've already done it once. (smile)

I feel your pain. My laptop has a new game - let's not retain enough battery to cope when the cord is out. So effectively, it's a small desktop. It needs constant AC connection.

- 2000 words of my story, which I finally started writing.
- Three posts.
- Two banners. one of which I spent three hours on.

And Mousie accidentally kicked the power plug out. Happy? No. I feel your pain.. but at least it was my own stupidity! Although, a mate told me once that we shouldn't feel bad about hard work gone missing -- the second time around is always better! :D

I hate it when computers die on you. Pen and paper doesn't though *smiles*

My laptop, at max capacity, has like half an hour of battery time. It's crap because I got it from my aunt who works at Compaq so she got me a cheap out-of-the-bin computer (almost literally, it's one of those ones that failed on of the test). Fortunately, it's done fine for me.

Well, at least you know the effects you were going to use, right? It'd be a bit easier to redo now... to look on the bright side.

*gives a "I hope you feel better soon" cookie*

My advice for you, save your work after every step you've done and felt satisfied, I developed sort of a timing, now by instinct I save after every 10 minutes of work.

I've learned the hard way, after 8 hours working on Corel Painter my computer froze and had to be reestarted, and I lost everything.

Shadow of the Rain - February 1, 2008 07:22 PM (GMT)
(smile) Thanks you guys. It didn't take me nearly as long to get to where I was before it crashed, cuz I spent most of the time just trying to figure things out.

Normally I do save very frequently, but I was doing several things at once and it just slipped my mind. You can believe that when I redid it, I was pushing ctrl+s practically every thirty seconds. ^__^;;

That really sucks about yall's work, Yoshitsune and Mousie. I think computers take joy in causing us endless frustration. They probably hold computer conventions every three years to share the most evil things they've done to their users.

Rhi-Rhi - February 1, 2008 08:51 PM (GMT)
I hate when that happens. I've lost tons of RP posts, drawings I've done on the wacom tablet and didn't think to save before photoshop CS3 decided to crash, horrid stuff like that.

A graphic design teacher told me something I shall never forget, for it really hammered it into perspective for me!

Think of how often you save as reflecting how much or how little work you're willing to risk losing if something goes wrong.

So like, save every ten minutes if you wouldn't mind losing and redoing ten minutes of work if the computer crashes. If you're willing to risk 8 hours or work, don't save for 8 hours and take your chances! Now that I look at it that way, in terms of time spent and how much I'd be willing to risk...

...I save after every step in photoshop that I take, and every few sentences that I write. xD

Mousie - February 2, 2008 12:58 AM (GMT)
Yeah... we should all know to save. I have ctrl-s built into my typing when I write stories -- but not when I'm doing image work, which can be frustrating.

Found this in my DA gallery... it may entertain. XD

QUOTE
Die, Photoshop, Die
There once was a girl,
Whose hair didn’t curl,
And one day she thought that she’d draw.
She sat down to work,
But a demon did lurk,
She did not know what was in store.
She started to paint,
Began to feel faint,
At the lovely things that she drew.
Her eyes were amazed,
She soon became crazed,
And worked like a child with goo.
Her thoughts were unended,
She never remembered,
To go into “File” and “Save”.
Then the laptop went spastic,
Things became drastic,
Her hopes all went to the grave.
Nothing was happy,
For that poor lappy,
The program wasn’t running.
She stared in dismay,
Her work gone away,
Til her mind formed a plan most cunning.
There was a fix-it,
For this little ditch-it,
Her eyes took a dangerous sheen.
She grabbed up a spanner,
Along with a hammer,
And started attacking the screen.
Photoshop reared up,
A monster to stop,
It’s protest, however, was brief.
The girl drew her weapon,
Cos that had to happen,
And knocked out all of it’s teeth.
She stuck in a sword,
A melon, a gourd,
And a large variety of knives.
A table, a pew,
An explosive or two,
Determined to end all it’s lives.
She drowned it,
She burnt it,
The program was doomed to black ranges,
All that she served,
She thought it deserved,
For losing all her precious changes.
Quickly it died,
Our heroine sighed,
Returning to the world of the real.
Washed off her face,
And took up her place,
Tucking herself into a meal.
Next time that girl,
Whose hair didn’t curl,
Decides to use a computer,
She’ll remember to save,
Before things become grave,
If not, then someone should shoot her.

From a real life experience. XD

(happy) Lol! That's really cute.

That sucks big time, many a time it has happened to me. Whether it's forum banners, graphics, anything..

*hugs*
