Title: Name Advice
Description: a little help?

Ryo - January 27, 2008 11:04 PM (GMT)
I'm trying to make a new character, but I can't decide on a name. (unhappy)

I wanted a name that I usually didn't use / hear / see that often.
Any suggestions?

My suggestion is to go on 'behindthename.com' It's a brilliant site and I always use it to find a pretty character name ^^.

If that doesn't work out for you, look up words in latin (because some latin words seem to make beautiful names) or look up German/Irish/Celtic or other names that aren't English. So many are so pretty.

I was thinking of that..but then that's what I usually do. x]

Do you have an idea of what the character will be like? Often enough, that will usually help with the name. Out of the above options though, I chose Marie.

Yes I have small bits of her character all ready made.

-She attends an all-girl school
-She's lived with her grandmother since she was about 9 or so since her parents died
-She works on a television show often as the make-up / costume designer / light board person {basically stage crew}

And that's about it.

Hrm, I was actually looking for a nationality and maybe an age as both have a pretty big impact on names. For example, Marie would be be a nice pick for someone with French ancestry but Elisabeth is better for one with British ancestry, etc.

Nationality wise..I have no idea. >_<

Marie is a nice name, but I like to use random name generators too.

I like this one: http://www.seventhsanctum.com/generate.php?Genname=quickname

Hmm..I like Marie or Elisabet. {E-lee-sa-bet} because I'm just weird like that. X]

I could do..Marie Elisabet {lastname}. XD

That would sound really nice! Though you'd have to have a good last name to go with it.

Ryo - January 29, 2008 04:35 AM (GMT)
What abouttt...

Marie Elisabet Palmer?
(smile)

That Other Gal - January 29, 2008 11:52 PM (GMT)
Beautiful. :)

Ryo - January 30, 2008 11:53 PM (GMT)
Or, "Elisabet Marie Palmer".
=D

That Other Gal - January 30, 2008 11:54 PM (GMT)
No, I think Marie Elisabet Palmer is better. Both work though.

Ryo - January 31, 2008 05:24 AM (GMT)
Okie. Marie Elisabet Palmer it is!

I'm Irish and could give you a whole list of Irish names XD

One of my favourite is "Ailidh" which means "nobel one".
"Clįr" is Claire..
Hmm..

If I think of more I'll get back to you.

African names are also lovely!! The name "Kaimah" means "tiny one", and it's my current name obsession because I find it so adorable :p

edit: just realised you're sorted so ignore my post XD
