Title: La La La!
Description: Sing with me!

Okay, so my choir is actually doing competition (we haven't for the past 3 years) and my director wants me to do a solo for it. I have my group piece but I can't find any good songs for solo. I'm pretty good at Good Morning Baltimore but she said it's too cliche right now thanks to the movie. Know any good solo pieces that are:
  • Preferably Broadway
  • Have available Sheet music
  • Are for a mezzo Soprano/Alto
  • Are fun! (boring music is icky)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you looked at Defying Gravity from Wicked? If you're looking for more upbeat, Popular is always really fun too, but it doesn't show off your voice as well.

Oooh, that's a difficult one. 'Diva's Lament' from Spamalot is hilarious, I do so love Spamalot.

All I can think of, when I think of Broadway, is Annie, and let's face it - 'Tomorrow' is no less cliche than 'Good Morning Baltimore'. Although, 'Never Fully Dressed' goes down a treat. I'dno... I shall look into my other Broadway faves..

There's always Green Finch and Linnet Bird from Sweeney Todd, but it might be too high for a mezzo/alto.

Hooray for help1 You all are lifesavers.
Defying Gravity: This is a duet... Otherwise, I'd hop on it faster than a lion to it's first dinner in 3 days. (random simile...)
Popular: Every time I try and get the end, I mess it up. It's not that it's too high, it;s just that it's awkward to hit for my voice x_x
Diva's Lament: I'm searching iTunes for it now to see if it's something I could possibly do... Kind of would rather avoid songs from shows I haven't seen/done but if I like it, maybe.
Tomorrow: Yeah... cliche... But oh so fun!
You're Never Fully Dressed: tempting... very tempting... I must see if my director from my other choir (yes, I'm in two) has the music for it.
Green Finch and Linnet Bird: agin, not really wanting to sing something from a show I haven't seen/done and are you sure Sweeney Todd sheet music would be out yet? It needs music for the accompanist and for judging purposes.

Actually, though, I was browsing my own extensive Broadway collection and I was thinking... what about No Good Deed? It;s got an element of creepy that I love, and it's in my range. Just barely, mind you, but it's still in my range.

This isn't just limited to broadway, either. As long as it's not "pop" my director'll okay it.

Defying Gravity: I know there are versions of it as a solo out there, but I don't have it to send to you. P.S. I LOVE random similes.
Popular: I know what you mean! It's a lot harder than you think it would be.
Green Finch and Linnet Bird: There would be sheet music for it because the Broadway version has been around for quite a while, but like I said, it's a little high.

No Good Deed would be awesome XD

Getting to Know You from the King and I.
Some of the notes are difficult to hit, but once you do it is a great mezzo-sorpano piece.
