Title: What do you want to be?

Jess - June 11, 2006 12:10 PM (GMT)
This is a topic someone started on my RPG a few days ago, and I think it's really interesting to find out what everyone else is interested in -- what sort of jobs we can all see ourselves doing in a few years, or maybe even (for those older ones :P) what sort of job you're doing at the minute.

Personally I'd love to be a computer programmer. Preferably in some sort of work where I mix astrophysics and programming; my "dream job" would probably be astronomical simulations or something, where I do computerised animations of astronomical objects in orbit and such. I'd love to program a red giant/white dwarf simulation. I'll probably try and start out in the computer games industry, though, as I want to do games programming at University. It seems like the best place to start, and then when I have more physics under my belt I could push myself in that direction. ^_^

ShinLi - June 11, 2006 12:18 PM (GMT)
Wow, that is so cool Jess ^_^.

Well for me? Currenlty I have finished my retail buisness education (which was very boring). I don't see myself working on a shop, and that is why I decided to start with another study. Because working in a shop is fun, but it's something I don't wanna do my entire life.

The education which I'll start with after the summer vacation is a education for becoming an art teacher in highschool. It takes four years to finish. It's a very time consuming education, making a lot of artsy stuff, so I hope I can pull it off. If not, then I'll go and do the History teacher education. Because yeh, teaching seems like a really fun and challenging job.

Although sometimes I wish I could just follow a photography education. But yeh, that would never happen, simply because I don't have enough money :'(

Jaylee - June 11, 2006 12:31 PM (GMT)
wow thats all really interesting.

Well I would like to be either a Computer programer or I can see myself becoming a Physiotherapist...Alot of people tell me that wanting to be a physio is really weird for a sixteen year old but its something that really interests me!

If they don't work out I don't know what I want to do :( What I do know though is that somehow or another I am going to university B:

Ambition, hmmm. Well, only two choices for me, either a Sound Engineer, or a Marine Biologist. Hahah! Well, I need to see whether I'm really good at science or not before I can study Marine Biology. That ambition strucked me when I was watching Discovery Channel (not a geek!!!), and they said, "The mysteries of the deep blue has yet to been discovered". So I thought this, if the mysteries ain't discovered yet, maybe when I work as a Marine Biologist, I can earn big money on discovery :). HAHAH!

For Sound Engineering, well, I love music, and I PLAY MUSIC!! HAhah! So yeah, creating new sounds for songs and movies are my interest :). Can earn big money too :). So the conclusion is, BIG MONEY!! HAha!

Hmm what a great topic. I have a fairly confusing life so I’ll try and give you a bit of a glimpse as to what I am thinking of.

I love to help people, it’s just who I am, so chances are I’ll be going into Medical School some time down the road. When I last studied Genetics I absolutely loved it, and I think That is what I want to do with my life, but not animal genetics. I’d love to be a Geneticist for people, if two parents have a chance that their child will have some life debilitating genetic disease, I want to be able to help them stop that from happening.

Genetics is perfect too because I have the ability to work in research. I know this is way to early but I found a program that NYU offers, it’s a PHD/MD mixture. SO I would be able to get my research PHD (Doctorate) and then simultaneously get my MD (Medical Doctorate). The only real issue is that the program is 8 years long, and after college. It’s a long time to give to something, but I think it may be the best thing for me, at the moment, especially because I can spend those eight years just studding Developmental Genetics, something I think I’d like to do.

No here is the quandary. I love history, absolutely love history. But I’m not so sure how I could translate that into a job, and I’m not teaching or being a Lawyer, I’ve already decided that much. Another thing I thought I may do for a loooong time was become a psychiatrist. The idea is still on the table, but I’m not really so sure that I’m going to follow through with that one, at the moment. Who knows I have really one more year before I start applying to colleges, so I have one more year to start figuring this out. I refuse to be one of those people who check “undecided” on their college application…

Well not that you’ve basically gotten my life story, I think it’s someone else’s turn. Great topic, again. Jess/

Morgan Le Faye - June 11, 2006 03:24 PM (GMT)
Right so I seem to change my mind a lot about a potential job

Here's what I'm still interested in:
Journalist
Archeologist
Anthropologist
Pediatrics

there are probably more but those are the ones that stand out in my mind. Archeology and Anthropology really go hand in hand. And for the journalist, I really like writing and at some time would love to write a novel but until then a journalist seems to be good for me. And pediatrics, I love working with kids and I also love science and biology so it seems to be right for me, who knows...

but Jess: if you love History Anthroplogy and Archeology would be great, that is if you like Ancient History

Horsecrzy721 - June 11, 2006 04:54 PM (GMT)
Oh great topic Jess!

Ok well I have always wanted to be a Veternarian. It started out as one of those cute little kid things, like I wanna help the cutie animals, much like wanting to be an astronaut. Then it evolved, it stuck with me. I have always loved animals and I always will, even the rabid evil ones (there was a rabid dog loose once, and it came to my yard, go figure. It belonged to a neighbor who trained them for security dogs...) Anyways, its just always been that for me. I have always had some kind of animal form in my life (at one point it was lizards, they were so cool, but my house had a disease and they all died, yea that sucked). I have also always loved horses, and thats when my dream formed. I want to live on a huge ranch, with a public stables on my land and I'll be a practising(sp?) vet on the premisis. I will of course specalise in large breed, ie dogs and horses, but I'll be able to help the little neighbors cats, or in this case cows. lol. But yea, thats what I want to do and I've always had my eyes set on Cornell... but at the moment, thats a far off dream.

Of course I have a somewhat second option that will probably be my minor, but horse training and breeding is an amazing feild that I would love! ^_^ So yea, thats what I want to do!

MusicalAsylum - June 12, 2006 09:07 PM (GMT)
Well I still have a few years till my parents are gonna give me the boot. But I've been thinking about two or three different things. Like some sort of photography, novelist, or a high school band teacher ... I'm a true band geek at heart ^_^

Mostly I'm working on the photography. I want to be more of a free-lance photographer. That's just what interests me.

la-harlequin - June 14, 2006 01:05 PM (GMT)
I know that this is going to sound really stupid, but i've always wanted to be either a criminologist or a medical examiner... It really comes down to my OP though. I need an OP 1 to get into medicine and an OP 2 to get into criminology... but I think if I study hard I can get into at least criminology, which would probably be my first choice anyway.

mysticsea - June 15, 2006 05:07 PM (GMT)
I've gone through a lot of different decisions. Can't even remember what it was first. I've wanted to be a cartoonist, marine biologist, vet, animal behaviorist, or a zoologist. Now I think I'm trying to decide between a marine biologist or zoologist. Something having to do with animals, I know that. I think a marine biologist would be good for me though, because I know a lot about different marine mammals and creatures, and... love the ocean. So yeah ^^

Dragonryth - June 15, 2006 07:30 PM (GMT)
A computer programmer is what I'll be. Phd in computer science. either that or CSI.

Mandalyn - June 15, 2006 08:03 PM (GMT)
An artist most definitely. :D

Web designer might be fun. I've thought about that for a while, but I think my choice is artist, which is what I've wanted to be ever since I was about 4 with my little crayons scribbling on the tables which mother scritcly forbid me to do. ^_^

Andy - June 17, 2006 03:14 PM (GMT)
I have a few ideas as to what I want to learn and then a few ideas what to do with the things I learn. At the moment I have the general qualifications we have here in the UK (GCSEs), all the simple stuff (english lang+lit, maths, sciences, RS) plus Tech systems and control, spanish+french, and ICT. Now I'm doing the qualifications after that, the A levels. I've already done an ICT A-level and have completed my AS tests for computing, maths, physics and spanish...

So with those kinds of qualifications I'm hoping to go to a good university and study something along the lines of either a computer science degree or a modern languages degree...

If I went down the computer science route, I might combine it with maths (Cos maths is easy ;lol; ) or software enginnering/multimedia/A.I. Whereas with the languages I would do french or spanish obviously...

All leading to either a job as a linguist/translator, or alternatively, a software developer (or something of that sort).

So yah ^_^

Insomnium - June 17, 2006 10:13 PM (GMT)
I'd like to be a College Literature professor. I love literature, especially the classics, and I would love to teach… but I’m not found of children. So, I want to teach college literature. It’s a job I can see myself doing and doing well, as well as enjoying it. I have a passion for literature, so I think I could really teach my students something.

Sameth Saboly - June 18, 2006 01:57 AM (GMT)
I am going all out on theatre now. I am going to try my shot at acting. Movies, plays, musicals... Whatever comes my way. But if that doesn't really work out i'm going for directing. I have always really wanted to direct, but I want as much experince in acting as I can get first.

darkraven - June 18, 2006 05:47 AM (GMT)
no idea.....but actually, Ive been thinking about an arborist.......
I have a bit of experience here at school, and I love being up in the trees...

CherryKiss - June 19, 2006 06:43 AM (GMT)
Maybe I'm weird, but I want to work in the surgery department.

Says the girl that would faint at the sight of blood. ;D

Jourdin - June 21, 2006 04:20 PM (GMT)
I think it would be really cool to be a magazine editor. *shrugs* sort of a dream.

Sapphire_flame - June 21, 2006 04:31 PM (GMT)
I'd like to be in the game industry. I probably have like a 20% chance of getting in, though. I already have plenty of amazing ideas for games. The only thing holding me back is my zero artistic talent...

Latios1717 - June 25, 2006 01:12 AM (GMT)
I would like to become either a writer or a comic book artist... I am more of a creative person. I don't want to end up as some guy who works all day long in a cubicle and has no life.

& knots on a kite - June 25, 2006 11:51 PM (GMT)
I want to be a stage actress. I've been singing since forever and I've been obsessed with musicals since FIRST GRADE. If I decide I don't want to go into broadway for some crazy reason, I think I'd like to become a writer. I like writing a lot, but whatever I do, you can bet it'll be artsy. ^^;

Hawk - June 26, 2006 02:17 AM (GMT)
Something dealing with computers.

Alex Thropp - June 29, 2006 09:56 PM (GMT)
Great topic.

I'm in an engineering program now in school. (I'm in high school) I was thinking of actually going into engineering, and then be a software engineer or something where I can make games, because I enjoy sitting on the computer all day, even in school.

Chrisdood - July 3, 2006 02:30 AM (GMT)
I want to work with computers, or own my own business.

Fluffiness - July 3, 2006 03:02 AM (GMT)
I want to be a writer. My dad is always telling me that when I grow up, i'll need a suitable job that will support me, but I don't really want to have some boring office job.

Since I was nine years old, i've been writing stories. At first i'd write only fanfiction, but then every so often i'd write a little drabble from a book I had invented but would never get around to writing. Anyway, I still want to be a writer, and hopefully when i'm old enough to actually choose my career, I can have a book ready to publish or something.

I know, I should just keep dreaming.

Hilary - July 3, 2006 08:01 AM (GMT)
I really really want to be a teacher in either middle school English or computers/graphics/html/etc.

citrus - July 3, 2006 06:04 PM (GMT)
I want to become a Psychiatrist or some kind of doctor... I've always had the dream of becoming an actress though...maybe I'll end up being one

photoshop_girl_ - July 3, 2006 07:04 PM (GMT)
A Graphic Designer of course. When I'm out of school and ready to go to college, I hope to attend the Fashion Instatuite in L.A.. They have classes their for graphic design. Thankfully, one of my friends is going to study Fashion Design there! Yay!

I also hope to become an actress, and no, this isn't a little girl's dream who wants to dress up and pretend. I really like acting even though the life isn't the best. Of course, actors and actresses usually get about 8 years of fame and then they are done. Once I'm done with acting, I'll step out of the spotlight and go home to become a Graphic Designer for big companies.

And a little note: My sister wants to be zookeeper. I'm so happy. <_< Of course, people change their minds so I think she wants to become a cartoonist for mangas.

Lore - July 3, 2006 07:05 PM (GMT)
I've been through a lot of dreams already lol. Usually I changed it every two months or something. I've been through doctor, hair stylist, masseuse, and I can keep on going. Then for a very long while, like more than a year, I wanted to be a child psychologist, but recently, I've once again changed of ambition and now I really want to become a lawyer, and I think I'm gonna go through with it :)

Rosaline - July 4, 2006 08:45 PM (GMT)
Well, my dream is to be a stage actress...but I have doubts about that...(employment, abiliity, experience, etc.) It takes so much to get into the field and once you're there, there's no gaurentuees. So if I could do anything, I would do that. I have a tremendous passion and love for the theatre. :D

Back on Earth, I want to be, and am working towards, becomming a florist. My friend is going to culinary school and already caters weddings and many times she has asked me to do the flowers to go with it. I've done 3 weddings already and have run my own business seasonally. I'm hoping to get the knowledge and experience to eventually open up my own place OR go into business with my friend. She could cater the weddings and I could do their flowers, it would definately make it a lot easier for couples it seems.

Centa'az Alexander - July 6, 2006 12:38 AM (GMT)
What I really want to do is write I guess and more importantly, be in sort of like a writing organization, sort of like the Dragon Lance Team if you know what I mean. I really want to work with people who enjoy fantasy like me and want to create a world where we experience that together. That's why if I could I would like to join the Dragon Lance Team as well.

Sigh  I have to hope and keep on hoping against hope ><

vintagesmile - July 6, 2006 11:02 AM (GMT)
oh boy.

I'm fascinated by how people react to appearances rather than the actual product. I've caught my mother, several times, buying perfume simply because the packaging and bottle was beautiful. Victoria Secret has managed to do that to me as well, though I tested the scent before buying the expensive stuff xD

In any event, if I were to get a job, it would include something of that nature. Designing packaging, or web design, a hobby and love of mine for years. However, because my brother is, well, not fit to run my father's company (has asperberger's syndrome, which to some is considered a mild autism), every cent of the Paar inheritance is going to me, and I worry that I won't be able to manage the money and take care of my brother. Therefore, I may go into college for a degree in business or accounting, rather than design.

Jay Serge - July 6, 2006 02:47 PM (GMT)
Well I've always wanted to disign game's...wel really do the hand drawn art for them but lately I've become more intrested in web deisgn and many other kinds of deisign, so pretty much I want to be a disigner of some kind when I'm older...well after collage and maybe Uni that is :)

Xavier - July 6, 2006 05:46 PM (GMT)
I really like this topic!! It's a great idea :)

Uhm, I'm actually really interested in writing, but currently in school pursuing a major in Marine Biology and a minor in some sort of foreign language *hasn't decided*

I'm ecstatic. I love the water :P It's exquisite

photine - July 6, 2006 06:00 PM (GMT)
WELL I think I'm going to end up an English major by the end of next year. (And a a foreign language too if I can manage it.) In any case, I'm interested in going into publishing, or perhaps working for a magazine of some sort. I haven't really worked it out yet but those are two options that currently interest me the most :P. Oh. And writing my world famous novel on the side, of course xD. (-islame-)

Supermans.Lover - July 9, 2006 02:04 AM (GMT)
And Editor/Journalist for a newspaper or a publishing company. I would also like to be a writer in my spare time.

Constantine Augustine - July 9, 2006 02:42 AM (GMT)
I want to be a writer and a bartender. If not those, then a teacher or something might be nice.

Juniper Snow - July 10, 2006 05:37 PM (GMT)
I wanna be a singer, I can sing I'm so trying out for American Idol next season <3

Melly - July 10, 2006 05:50 PM (GMT)
Be sure to give us all a shout out!

I'd love to professionally sing or act, but I know it just isn't in the cards for me. So for me, all of that stuff is just a hobby and nothing more

RiverClan_ - July 12, 2006 11:16 PM (GMT)
What I'd really like to do is film editing, or sound editing, or both. I don't know, but for some reason, cutting and peicing film together just interests me.

Since it'd be kind of hard to find a job for that, I'd want to teach preschool through 1st grade on the side.

Maybe writing as well.
