Title: Help Me, I'm Tempted!
Description: .. I need a good slap on the wrist.

Mousie - December 19, 2007 05:14 AM (GMT)
I shouldn't be allowed to watch TV, or read books. Because now my head is zinging with ideas for new RPs, and I know I don't have the time to run another. It's frustrating. Have spent a number of days flicking back to the registration screen for a new board..

... and then stop myself. Just.

I've only just got into Twilight, which is now the major urge. I've had a bit of a surf around, checked out all the boards I could find... but they seem way too canon for me. I'm not a fan of canon boards. Personal preference. But to have an original plot set in the same world... now that inspires me.

*slaps self* Noooooooooooooo...

The other main idea, would be a Highschool RP. But not the usual drama-llama cliques and the like. My head was intrigued by Summer Heights High, a satirical show that pretty much makes fun of the education system, and the eccentric characters found in the fictional school of Summer Heights High. It'd be the standard highschool set up, but each character would have a particular quirk that makes them stand out from the generic highschool character. Things like a private school girl on exchange to a bogan public school (taken from SHH)... teachers who believe they own the school, kids with extreme problems in the classroom, harassing teachers...

Hilarious, it would be.

But no. No! Mousie can't. She must stop... must supress the urge to create new board... one is enough...

Neither of them really call out to me, but I certainly know the feeling. I have one very active board and several dead ones--oops--and I'm in the process with several other people of making a new board.

Mousie - December 19, 2007 05:19 AM (GMT)
That's the thing. I *know* I'll get bored, disinterested... whatever. I know it won't last. And yet still, my head wants to create them!

The highschool one in particular I can see flopping, and the other would get lost in the fandom unless I did something seriously unique. It's not logical, it's not practical..

*tapes hands to table*

There we go.

Darth Makar - December 19, 2007 05:22 AM (GMT)
Indeed. It's best to think about it long and hard before hand before diving into something like that. I should know and listen to my own advice, but eh, whatever. ;)

Aww, it's so hard to resist the temptation, though! I always want to just take my half-baked schemes and run with them but I can hardly handle being on a few sites at a time, let alone run them. I really have to give credit to those people who find so much time to do everything they have to plus all their RP duties.
But my winter break is coming up!
*happy dances*

I totally know what you mean! I have this problem at least twice a week. (x.x) My brain has a nasty tendency of making ideas of everything I think about. Which in turn has ended up with me creating loads of RP forums that never survive, sometimes since it seems I'm the only one who thinks that particular idea was cool. >.>

Spot on! I have to admit, most of my forums have died due to me becoming bored, and the few I haven't grown bored of die of other reasons. I feel with you, so many ideas flying about, but trying to control your creative urges.

Aaaw, Mousie, if it makes you feel better, I have the boards...but no staff.

=/

I've just recently started on a board that's a cross between St Trinians and the History Boys, and when voicing my search for staff...nothing. I think it's because I said you really needed to know the basic story of the movies/books/plays, but...eh. It's not THAT difficult to understand.

Now...if you want a partner in criiiiiiiime. ^.^

Mousie - January 29, 2008 03:43 PM (GMT)
Haha, no.. I'm sworn off new boards for the moment. I've managed to work my way into a number of high priority threads on my own board... so my focus is there! *looks down at hands still gaffa taped to the table*.. that could have something to do with it too...

Lici - January 29, 2008 04:04 PM (GMT)
Haha, okay. Wellllll...if you ever change your miiiiiiiiind...

Get away from the computer! -grabs Mousie, runs away, computer blows up-

I've found the perfect way to get rid of those cravings. Make those boards! Then spend ages and ages and ages getting every detail absolutely perfect. Plan everything to the nth degree. You'll lose interest. If you don't - haha sucks for you! But I do that when I have new ideas. I start to plan them all out so much that I get bored of them.

I know you like spontenaeti! I really can't spell that. Spontaneity. So plan those ideas to death!

Mousie - January 30, 2008 10:58 AM (GMT)
Haha, like I'm planning my novel to death? *looks morosely at five documentations of the same outline - and no first chapter*...

And yeah. Definitely like spontaneity. One day St Kates was there. Within two hours, it was Tally. XD

Carey Moffett - January 31, 2008 01:34 AM (GMT)
-nods- Exactly! I had that very same problem with my novel. And then I did NaNoWriMo, wrote one whole novel in thirty-one days (wa ha) and bam! It was much easier to ignore all my planning and write.

Anyway. That's my advice.

RomanHk - January 31, 2008 02:43 AM (GMT)
I wish I had the time to write a novel... Oh sorry, off topic. Right. *Grabs Mousie and cuffs her down.* It's for your own good! (happy)

Meh, I don't find t.v shows very tempting because there is too much already set in stone. Movies, maybe. But the best ones are the fantasies I live out in my head. It's pretty cool to make a board based on an original idea and watch people help your fantasy come alive.

On a different, more random note, I was thinking that if someone opened an RP that was all about baby drama, getting it on, and being sad, I bet it would be a hit. I didn't say it would be a good RP, but it would be a hit.
