Title: [S] Clickable Map
Description: IF/Firefox combo is evil...

I created a clickable map for my site, feeling the odd need to make it so people can just view a map and then click on a location to get to the forum. It's too large (pic-wise) to go posting it up in the page footer or header or something (and the coding for it is going to eventually get longer as other areas in the site are gradually activated). It works great, on IE and Safari. On Firefox, that's a whole different issue. EVERYTHING is skewed for the links in the image when I have it posted (put it up there as is right now even though it doesn't work right for Firefox since it works for other browsers). However, when I have it on "post preview," all the links work perfectly fine in Firefox.
So, being my adventurous self (lol), I took my code over to an old site of mine that I closed down and shoved the code in the footer. Of course, it worked just fine there in Firefox, IE, and other browsers. To me, that means that my code is fine and that what's happening is some issue between how posts are made on IF and how Firefox treats them. Unfortunately, as I said, I can't use this map in a footer or header on my actual site because of its size.
Does anyone know how to make a clickable map work inside a post on Invisionfree for Firefox browsers? If you need to see the actual place this post is at and/or the map code, I would be happy to message you the necessary info upon request.

Dude ... I didnt' even know you could make clickable maps like that! I sooo wanna do that! I have a map already that I drew of my town (on my site), and I thougth about doing that but I have nooo idea how.
I had that issue, too, of the map being too big. So I just cut it into four pieces and input the code side by side and it works fine. WOuld that be possible?

I'm not sure how I could split it up into separate pieces safely without making it confusing. :p
It's 650x650 pixels and has a grand total of 56-ish places on it (only 25 active, though). There isn't really a clear-cut way to divide in into pieces without invading on parts of other "territories" and splitting lands that would click to forums in half. Sticking it on the main page as-is adds un-needed stretching vertically (I have enough there to scroll through without adding a map).
Yes. You can make maps clickable (but apparently can't post them in a post so that it cooperates in firefox XS ). You can find some good basic sites by just doing a google search for "clickable map HTML" or something like that. If you want to see the code of a working clickable map and you are a member of some sort of SIM game that has maps you click on or something, you can view the source code for the page to get an idea of what's going on. That's what I did when I got confused at one point. I went to a game I frequent, looked, and was like "ooooo! That's what I'm missing! *add missing # symbol* Now it works!" lol!
Well, now I have everything for my map, but it just won't work on firefox while being in a post. Evil IF/Firefox combo...

Is it a bitmap? I've used those before, and they should work on Firefox. If you send me the link I'll take a look at the problem.

No, not a bitmap. It's just a gif image declared to be a map with outlined clickable areas in HTML code.
Sending over the link to where the map is located now...

Well, it works with my Firefox. But I have a mac and an older version of Firefox, so those are likely contributing factors. And, I have to say that the clickable map is pretty cool.
I browsed a few forums and it looks like the two main similar problems were thus: 1) An error in the code that Firefox was sensitive to but the other browsers weren't, and 2) A few people claimed that when they changed the code to xhtml, it worked.
I don't know much about xhtml or why that would work. Anyone else have some thoughts?

Older firefox works, eh? Not the newer one, so far. It still seems odd to me that the thing only doesn't work when it's in a post. It would be great to know why that reaction is happening (and thus maybe a way to make it not happen :D ).
I know nothing about xhtml, myself...hmm...wonder how hard it would be to convert...
Still open for any other suggestions anyone might have on this thing, in case it involves an easier fixer than tracking down and trying to figure out how to convert. XD
